I'm surprised that no one has chimed in with some comment on this nice one.
When the Colonel was on Carson and Barnes, he would open his act with a little talk about overhearing a little girl down at the grocery store that morning telling her mother that she watched him on TV every Saturday and of her mom telling her that she used to see him in the movies every Saturday.
He went on to tell how he then talked to the child and told her, "... and someday I hope to be entertaining your little girl!"
Here the audience always broke into applause, and just to be sure they did Jack Moore was leaning over against the bandstand and would start clapping if no one else did.
