Here we see ape cage no. 67. It was built for the 1938 show and had glass panels that could be swung up and out via hinges at the top.
The word **Anthropoid** was correct for what it exhibited - -chimps, orang-utan and gibbon. But my Dad was stumped by that word until he could check the encyclopedia when we got home.
Guinea refers to the then West African colony which is part of the chimps’ range. Borneo would be for the orangutan and Burma for the gibbon.
This wagon was metal so its roof could not be cut and opened at an angle like that of the gnus. Note the fluorescent lighting tubes in the ceiling.
I cannot imagine tying to exhibit a gibbon today in the tiny space it had in the compartment at the far right.
