The year and city are correct, [specifically July 4, 1888, Providence, RI] but I believe that this British import is likely the Daniel and the Lion float inspired by the Bible story [Book of Daniel, Chapter 6]. Lion Tableau was the name employed by the Ringlings, and later by Christy, for the bottom of the telescoping tableau that once held the carved figures of St. George and a dragon aloft.
