Yes Buckles, snowed in here and read those two articles yesterday. What we need more of, history from you guys that were there written down, or at least put down on tape for historians. I've heard you, Johnny H., Dorey M. and John P. tell some great stories. And I know how much more is there. If people circus historians you know ask you to do interviews let them tape away!
Carl
Whole heartedly agree, Carl.
Thankful that Tom Parkinson and others made the time and effort to record circus history as it occurred from the people who were there. Hope that others in the current generation continue this practice.
Before I retired from the St. Louis Zoo I went through the Zoo's newspaper clipping file and added some knowledge I acquired from talking with trainers that preceded me and wrote a history of the STL Zoo's animal shows. It wasn't a lot of effort and was a lot of fun (like reading "The Blog"). For a guy that barely escaped English class I've written the only record of an interesting part of STL Zoo history. (It was published in Bandwagon -- I think Sept/Oct 02). I also wrote a history of the the sea lion show, things only I would know. Again, nothing great but a bit of history got recorded.
With computers (Word and spelcheck) its not that tough. People down the road will appreciate your effort.
JIM A: You're right about recording history, and good for you. I found your article in the May-June '02 BANDWAGON. I'd like to be in touch with you for further study of St. Louis animal work. You left me wanting more. Kindly advise. I'm at steelarena314@hotmail.com. Roger
