Althought CC is probably refering

to the sand berm created to keep

the globe stable it would have

been "Props" as in Hollywood the

term "Gaffer" is applied to the

electric department and "Grips"

are the carpenters

That banner is puzzling. Did any show have side show style banners promoting the acts inside the main tent?

Chic Silber said...

I'll bet it was painted as a

prop drop for rentals

Mr. Burck

contact these Folks...as I believe there is a different "Jack Joyce" Banner in or was in their Collection...

http://www.hammergallery.com/Banners/vintage_side_show_banners_1.htm

I know they have a "Don Carlos, Worlds Greatest Animal Trainer presents Monkey-Motel" Banner for sale, and for that matter my Original "Daisy-Mae 2-Nosed Cow" Banner is for sale....

After checking with my sources...

being as it is a 8' x 10'...(standard for the Day)
it was most likely on the Terrell Jacobs Circus on Conklin (40's)(in Canada)...or World of Mirth,(40's) or Strates in '52...My souce noted the Bannerline on strates was a former "Girl Show" Front..and Mr Jacobs was not pleased as it totally blocked the Big-Top.....

Mr. Zych,
Of real interest is the former blond female animal presenter with a well know "no chest" that you immortalized with the "gaff to end all gaffs," huge "store boughts" so she could better defend herself from the "Killer Aztec Swamp Rat's". When is that going to be on the market? Why don't you, the Gaff Master, explain to Chic what a "gaff" is in the real, genuine entertainment industry. Not that phony movie and record industry.

the poster behind her is beautiful! and the sand to steady the globe was a good idea! i wonder if every trick on that banner was performed by Joyce's horses?
