One of the CWM offerings that year was a recreation of a Barnum Sideshow, featuring fiberglass figures of some of Barnum’s most famous attractions. (The old gentleman working the front door was a former showman. I don’t recall his name but somebody out there undoubtedly knows who he was and can probably tell us something about his life and career.) |

Perhaps Paul Luckey, who had been in the Parker & Watts band? he somewhat resembled the P. T. Barnum in 1880s lithos. Paul served the museum as announcer, exhibit builder, researcher, correspondent and so on, having many connections to circus musicians and those interested in the art.
Sorry, do not think this is Paul, stance is all wrong, He was the Ringmaster and Announcer for years but this just doesn't look like him. Paul was very instrumental in acquiring much of the band music arrangements for the Museum Library from such greats as Merl Evans, Karl King and others.
Paul had also worked for some music publisher and when I first met him at CWM, he was writing missing parts for pieces of music that were no longer available for Merle. (He was also a locksmith for many years.) The parts looked just like they had been when originally published. What a great individual!
He started the Sauk County Circus Band and led it for a number of years before he went to the museum.
