1979 Ringling-Gunther art

1979 Ringling-Gunther art, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

This artwork showing Gunther as Ben-Hur was on the side of the truck’s trailer. (I wonder if it had been all hand-painted!) I have a reproduction of an old Ringling poster with very similar artwork. Ben-Hur Coffee also used similar artwork for its trademark logo back in the days when the original Ringling Bros. were still running their circus.

I remember this well as whenever I couldn't find Rudi he was busy watching Tommy Cooper paint this fabulous painting, Tommy also painted many others that year.

I think Tommy Cooper painted

this truck along with much other

show painting for many years

He also silk screened a hundred

license plates "Ringing Bros.

and Barnum & Bailey Circus"

and then did a screen to fill

in the missing "L" but it looked

pretty lame (I have 1 somewhere)

For several years Tommy & Pat

went up to the Jersey shore

and he opened a sign shop that

he named "PBR Signs" which he

told me was inspired by his

favorite beer Pabst Blue Ribbon

I believe he started as a clown

Tommy once painted a nice tiger and presented it to Mr Beatty at a party on the show in Philly.
