Ringling Barnum FRANK BUCK Billboard - Scranton 6.22.38

From Chris Berry

It was 71 years ago today (June 22, 1938) that the Ringling-Barnum Circus was stopped dead in Scranton, PA due to labor problems. This photo was presumably taken during the period when no one knew what the future held for the big show. For four days the tents stood deserted in Scranton as tensions between the strikers and the show boiled. John Ringling North did eventually get the show off of the lot - and back to Sarasota where it reorganized and opened in Redfield, SD July 11, 1938 as "Al G. Barnes and Sells-Floto Presenting Ringling Bros and Barnum and Bailey Stupendous New Features". Among those features of course...Frank Buck - whose salary was reduced 75% to $250 a week.
