Wow! What a blast from the past. In 1979 while performing and working with Big John Strong's Circus, I played Dillon, Montana, where the pictured monument/plaque lies on the grounds of the fairgrounds there. I remember seeing and reading this plaque. I well remember Dillon, MT for another reason -- while performing in the ring on that high grass lot I stepped in a hidden gopher/marmot/whatever hole and twisted and badly sprained my ankle while jumping rope with one of my dogs during the show. I hobbled around with a cast on -- not a walking cast, mind you, because the doctor in Anaconda where I went for medical treatment the next day, didn't believe in that kind of cast -- for about 3 weeks until I could stand it no longer and had it cut off. What a pain in the butt hobbling around looking after my dogs, not being able to perform, but doing those things (generally useful), like sewing repairs on the big top each day befor it went up, that I could.
Big John to his credit didn't cut my pay during this time.
Thanks for a good, if painful memory!
