great presntation -- styling, flash, etc. if they can't bring this act over here, they should send the people here to these people to learn how to present elephant acts with style. best presented act i've seen since barbara and you and benny retired, though graham chipperfield had a lot of potential.
Wow, there are some great camera angle shots on the "Bossoms" which definitely round this act out. I don't think there is a American trainer that can run around that distance. It is good to see all know what "move up" means. I have known however a few who were as vocal. The GSOE,Minyak bit at the end ????? Some good looking performers. PS. My wife made me us the word "Bossoms", A thumbs up though.
To Mr.Edgar; Not to take away from this act. It looks good; However there are a few elephant men it the good old USA that still know which end to throw the hay to.Your remark in regards to sending "these people to those people" If you're referring to some show owners, you might have a point?
mr hall -- i meant that these people could teach many of our american trainers how to style and sell an act, to put some excitement into it. i didn't mean to imply that our acts are not well trained; some do more and perform better. i think a big part of our problem today is that many of the performers look bored and indifferent. they seem to either know nothing about the show in show business or don't care. it's not just what you do, it's how you do it. and many of our acts have forgotten that. if a performer has fun in the ring, the audience has fun. if a performer looks like he'd rather be somewhere else, so does the audience. i'd rather watch five acts put on a show than 15 put on a training demonstration. and i know that you, as one of the best performers on the road today with an act i've always enjoyed, know the difference. i'm sure you know that you or any members of your family -- indeed most of the more experienced performers -- could get more applause wth a teddy bear than others could with spectacular tricks presented with no smiles, no styling and thrift shop wardrobe. thaty's all i meant. this troupe could teach many of today's performers how to sell an act instead of just going through the motions of trying to fill time. i meant no disrespect to the performers who really perform.
To Henry Schroer, You may have been equaly as athletic however "bossoms" carry a lot of weight with me. My wife accuses me of not being weened properly, but damn, don't those elephants look good. P.S. Mr.Edgar I was wondering how this act would look being presented on an empty gymnasium type environment with out that "pi are square, no pi are round theory"? That is what I was referring to. Things possibly to be learned. Yes this act has what I call that "give a shxxit" attitude. The act is staged very well with a happy "bossomly" appearance. Again, I say a " thumbs up ".
Carson & Barnes was here in Lancaster, California, last Wednesday and Thursday (20 & 21). I met Kristin Byrd Parra who extended great hospitality with star-back reserves for two performances. In their present one-ring edition, I was most impressed with three of the most beautiful, ideally-proportioned elephants I've seen in years--Isla, Kelly, and Isa. These girls are perfectly nourished, groomed, foot-trimmed and well presented under the command of Chip Arthurs, a former protege of Buckles. Not even the most radical activist-idiot could find fault with these magnificent pachyderms, or of Chip's management of them. Kristin told me they have 28 elephants total, all as well-tended as the three on this unit. Some are in Hugo, and others are on Kelly-Miller. For top-of-the-line further information, visit Carson & Barnes website, and in particulat, go to their site of endangeredarkfoundation.com.
The show did its best here, but had to cope with large, loose gravel on this inhospitable Antelope Valley Fairground parking lot. From here, they were promised better faring at a schoolgrounds in Oxnard.
Kristin heads up a fine show, highly recommended when they come your way.
They do a good job working around what some of the elephants can not do. Certainly this not up to par with some of our better well trained and presented over the years. No tub sit up with the middle elephant. No ground sit. No walking long mount. No tub mounts. Split trick seems so popular in Europe with elephants that can't do alot of stuff. Walk over is very impressive and we should have done that here if girls were available. I assume that is their entire repotoire and am amazed at the comments of ridicule in regard to presentation. Guy does an awful lot of running around and styling to himself rather than yo the elephants. They are the stars of the act and the rest are just choures. Lets here it for the elephants.
I readily admit not being familiar with the ways of the European market. So I ask what some may seem as an incredibly dumb question... but then that's never stopped me before!
Is this act privately owned or a show owned act?
Are there any privately owned elephant acts in Europe? Bob
This working without a hook is not a good idea in that it would lead people to believe theses lovable giants are easily persuaded with just talk. I the backstage shots the helpers all have hooks. It is very nice to see an elephamt act presented with the trainer using and holding the hook very effectively. I always liked the golf club iron with a hook in it. When the public sees this guy running around without a hook it would cause problems of use when the hook is necessary as a guide. Elephant hooks of various types have always been accepted in the handling of elephants just as a stick of some sort, a whip or a quirt with other hoofed stock. I believe every jockey in the racing field carries a "bat". No wonder why. These guys running around without a hook only add to the problem. I note that after the initial entrance to the ring there was no more going around and plenty of cutting in. I did not see hind leg walks, one foot balance , leg carry, etc. In viewing the Intrnational circus blogs I note this act booked with various European circuses, plus those Casserellys and that seems to be the general extent of independent acts. Henry, I am sure all the elephant acts over there as well as here are privately owned. EITHER BY A CIRCUS OR SOME OTHER PERSON.
iT SEEMS THAT THE BEST ACTS ARE THOSE THAT HAVE IT ALL TOGETHER, WITH LOOKS, WARDROBE, PRESENTATION AND THE BEST IN PERFORMANCE BEHAVIORS. [TRICKS I BELIEVE THEY WERE CALLKED}. tHIS ACT HAS THE STYLE AND LOOKS AND THAT IS ABOUT IT. THE GREAT ANIMAL ACTS OF THE WORLD GOT BY WITH MORE THAN THAT, BUT IF THATS THE BEST eUROPE HAS TO OFFER, I DOUBT IT. SEEMS LIKE FLAVIO AND KNIE PLUS KRONE ARE PRETTY STRONG. BY THE WAY WHO IS OR WAS THE TRAINER OF THESE ELEPHANTS. SURELY NO THE YOUNG PRESENTER?
Just as aside, did anyone look at the wire act over on the right side? It is very good, until they drop in the net just like a flying act. However, they do some things that I have never seen done, net or not, it is very good. Bob Ktiio
Ode to Buckles/Roger Smith and John Herriot. Roger, Yes, Hollywood I'm sure does a good job on Carson & Barnes. Even thou he has been the topic of conversation recently around the coffee table, if you think he does a nice job, you should have seen "The Gunther" on the RBBB. Buckles, I too thought Chip was your protege, Rex categorically denied the compliment as well. Maybe it was Gary Johnson???? To Mr.John Herriot; You make some good points.Once upon a time during the Woodcook RBBB era, the subject matter of "Anna Mae and Ben" came up. I was quite impressed at the time with this act I must say. Never the less a conversation erupted between Buckey Steel and myself over Ben. Buckey was hitting me over the head with the old "The act is Anna-Mae" and how can you stand there and say Ben was great? I agreed, Anna-Mae is a faithful old soldier however, Buckey, what would you think if we put Mr.Gibbs working the act? I'm sure he could work the old girl as well. Upon saying this Mr.Steel conceded. "It has style and looks and that's about all"????? "Well shame on them for that".

I thought you had hit the S instead of the T or it was another version of "Bassooms" -but that is the other end, elephant or otherwise! cc

Shame I don't have a Video of my act with Barum, 10 Elephants, no hook, lots of running around, same tricks plus some more, but no "Bossoms"

In some ends of show business
they refer to that sort of thing
as "Flashing The Joint"
Works real well for me too
In addition to a fine presentation, the ladies are elegant.
It proves that showing your ass cheeks divided by a piece of dental floss does not belong in the circus.
I've never seen a ring carpet placed in the ring with such poise.
Five stars for the elegant Errani ladies!

Roger, thanks for the compliment but most of Chip's elephant education came from Rex Williams.
Isn't Chip married to one of
Ingrid's daughters and doesn't
the other daughter and husband
now have the Vargas show out
And yes Mike I too was focused
on the ring mat placement
(just like J C)

I've never seen so many horny bastards in one place.
I have not seen the act in person but the tape has been edited.
You can see a propman placing the spindle into the ring but you never see the elephant on the spindle.
We do not know what else was edited out of the tape. Perhaps some of our European bloggers would shed some light on this.
Most Elephant acts in Europe are privately owned.

It is seeing a tape like this that makes me miss the Woodcock Elephants on Big Apple.
