| As an employee of the American Circus Corporation, Mr. Dill spent most of his time with the John Robinson Circus where he served in the 1920's as Asst. Manager to Danny Odom and later ran the show. |

No less an authority than Willie Rawls told me that Sam B Dill was the smartest showman he had ever known.
Smokey Jones told me that he had hopped a freight train on his final attempt at running away from home and wound up in a freight yard half starved.
Across the way he could see a circus set up and headed toward the lot.
The first person he saw was Willie Rawls who ran a garbage joint at the head of the midway and he inquired about getting a job.
Willie answered, "We don't hire any dirty neck punks, look at you, you're filthy!"
Smokey explained that he had just gotten off a train and it was train smoke.
"Well, come on Train Smoke, I'll see if they need any help on the Big Top."
Smokey said to me, "They called me Train Smoke for quite a while but thank God it was eventually became Smokey."
