More on Ringling Clowns

Scan10382, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

This magazine was published so long ago, it was just the "Ken" Show. It could well be used today however with the sub title: "The Day the Clown's Microphone Died!"

I believe the following pictures (magazine unknown) were in connection with publicity for the DeMille movie since these people were all listed in the 1951 Ringling Route Book.

So to all you clowns out there and I say that with due respect, the names below do not correspond with the pictures.

Frank Saludo, Frank Luley, Jimmy Armstrong, Ernie Burch, Irv Romig, Paul Mortier, Charles Stephan, Johnny Trip, Art Cooksey and Edwin Green.

The posted photos suggest the white, red and black/dark blue era of clown make-up. Surely there's a story to the lack of other colors. Was it a product of the 1950s or a longer-term color choice tradition?

Surprisingly, some of the faces have red near the eyes, which hasn't been allowed of late on RBBB, I believe.
