Why would the elephants be lined up down the middle? We also see that in some Ringling menagerie pictures around this time.

It seems to me that this can pose a danger with people being both in front and back of the bulls. Also when moving the elephants out of the tent they must cross the public path as opposed to just opening up the sidewall and letting them turn around and head out that way. Finally, it would seem that removing manure would be easier if they backed up to the sidewall.

Not to mention the elephants scratching on the center poles and tugging and chewing on the fall ropes.
