The photograph of the Barnum & Bailey "Two Hemispheres" Bandwagon and 40 horse hitch is backwards. If you look at the street car, you will see that "Brooklyn Rapid Transit" is backwards. The image appeared in the 1904 B&B courier, The Realm, suggesting that it was taken in Brooklyn in 1903, perhaps on April 27. It would have been the first time that this greatest of all circus parade features appeared anywhere. It was the first parade staged after B&B returned from their European tour. In the 1880s, the elevated railroad structure in the background caused difficulty with the Barnum & London telescoping tableaus. They usually routed the parade so that they didn't have to be lowered.
In checking "The Realm" for 1904, I find that the location is given as Broadway and 34th Streets, New York City, meaning Manhattan. Hopefully a sharp-eyed New Yorker or city visitor will be able to advise the exact location.
