"I'm No Angel" 1933

MAIL0143, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

Regarding recent comments on Mae West, my father and mother took three of Hall's elephants "Mary", "Sidney" and "Wilma" to Hollywood to promote this movie. They even had them at Grauman's Chinese Theater for the opening.

"YOU'RE RIGHT, IT'S NOT MAE WEST---The blonde siren rides to greater screen fame on a pachyderm in "I'm No Angel" but there's another Paramount player who also knows elephants. He's Baby LeRoy, who spotted a troupe of the beasts on Hollywood Boulevard and wouldn't quiet down until the lady trainer boosted him aboard.
The only other elephant the tiny screen hero had known was the one in the nursery set of "Miss Fane's Baby is Stolen", the new picture in which he appears as the screen-son of Dorothea Wieck."

I might add that I have been informed by several parties that the Big Apple Circus Cook House will be featured on TV in some sort food show.
I dined at this establishment for nineteen years off and on and will attest that the cuisine prepared by Chef Pierre Pinson' was nonpareil!

Buckles,
Is this color photo a real color shot from 1933 ans not a hand colored one?????
They had color back then but it cost so darn much to take one.
This is a beautiful shot.
Now if you want to see Baby LeRoy at his best get a copy of Paramounts, It's a Gift with the one and only W. C. Fields. You will hurt for days after you see this one.
A blind Mr. Muckelroy cross the street and I think every piece of L A's fire fightening equipment just misses him.
Also W. C. has to close his store on account of Baby LeRoy who opens the molasses barrel. W. C. hated kids and Baby LeRoy.
Also an insurance salesmen trys to sell him a policy at 5 am and the great line W. C. says, if I live to 200 I can buy a velocipede. I have used this line a few times myself.

Buckles,
Speaking of costumes, what year did your legendary father "enlist" in the circus?
Wade Burck

He joined the Rhoda Royal Circus in 1920 at the age of 16.

Ah yes, happily remember the blind Mr.Muckle and his desperate search for kumquats.
Remember WC's dislike for kids and pets as in The Bank Dick..."Little boy, how would you like a stockinged kitten? yaass, a sock in the puss."
He also "worked" with an "elephant"
in Never Give A Sucker An Even Break..."Give Queenie" reminded me of Ben and Ned in one of their routines on the Big Apple. This movie also featured Blackaman (sp?) doing a bit with Charlie McCarthy and a croc or a gator.

Keep that sawdust trail open and active.
