When's the last time you ever saw a pony or horse long mount?
D.R. once told me that like elephants, no horse was fully trained if it couldn't lie down on command and do a ground sit up.

Nothing about the trainer, the training or the horses, but I have never liked this trick. To be it seems awkward instead of smooth and flowing.
Would our horse experts par excellance please share their insight on this trick.
This is just my opinion, remember, not to take anything away from anyone--absolutely not.

Always gets a big hand. Hard to train in getting them synchronized.

Have horses ever been trained for a walking long mount?

When I went to Culpepper in 94 they had the remaining 5 on 6 ponies from a drill Red bought from Fess Reynolds. At the end of the season I started training a new pony to replace #6. I was not very educated on equine, so it was a hard road for the pony and I. Somehow I had the pony doing everything except the long mount by feb. but had no idea how to start that. Being a "Stupid Kid", I never wanted help, but Red tells me load the pony and take it to Fess' place, so we know it will be finished. I explain my problem to Fess, he trains the pony in a couple days, then shows me some stuff he was training for himself.
The point of this was, to answer Darryls ? Fess had 6 Brahma Bulls that did a walking mount, first bull on the ground, not on curb.He told me he had done it with Horse's and not liked the look, and he was not to fond of how it looked with the Bulls.
