Here are 6 pictures of Circus Vargas from Oct.,1977 in Hicksville, Long Island, N.Y.
Never having seen the mammoth RBBB under canvas (only in the old Madison Sq. Garden) this is probably the closest we came to seeing a show this big.
The 1977 Circus Vargas had a blue big top 150' w/3-50's and a blue menagerie tent 80' w/2 40's.
There were over 100 animals on the show. Approximately 82 of them were on display in the menagerie tent.
They had 12 elephants, 17 horses, 17 bears, plus lions, tiger, leopard, camels, chimps, ponys, zebra, llamas and assorted other animals. There was also a two-headed calf in a pen in the menagerie.
The midway had a pony sweep and a reptile pit show. Additional show animals were in the backyard.
It was an incredible sight to see the two large blue tents and then to go in the menagerie and see all the animals on exhibit.
The big top show was just as incredible with Wally Naughtin's bears, Billy Baker's liberty horses, Miss Loni foot juggler and Kay Rosaire's cats among others.
Gone are the days.......!
