Beatty-Cole 1960's-70's #4

PHOTO 4 (Beatty-Cole big top int, 6-15-67)
This is a view that is seldom seen today showing the elephants pulling
up the quarter poles when Beatty-Cole played the Eastern States
Exposition (now called the Big E) fairgrounds in West Springfield,
Mass., on June 15, 1967. At night, these same elephants could be seen
walking the perimeter of the tent, then kneeling low as a chained was
wrapped around a stake after which the elephant would rise up, pulling
the stake from the ground. This is a task now done strictly by
mechanical means.
