This is one of thoes Very Special Forms of Entertainment , Unique in its Charm & Artistry that the CIRCUS is so renowned for . The Artistic Colaboration between humans & animals ( the dancing between man & beast - if you will )& the poking fun at That on Top of It -
Ahhhh what a Craft - what an Art what a Life - what a GROUP !
I don't know if this dog is dressed up as a lion or what, but it reminded me of a gag I saw on Ringling in the early '70's.
Wolfgang Holzmair finished his lion act with a shoulder carry. As he threw the lion off and it exited, he turned for his last call, after which the arena went black. Instantly, at the far end of the buiding, a single spot came up- and there was a "little person" clown, dressed in a gladiator costume like Wolfagang's, with an enormous stuffed lion around his shoulders! The crowd went wild as he'd strut around with this toy lion, the absurdity of the visual connection with the real lion act was unmistakable. It was perfect.
I smile just thinking about it. I don't know why I remember, but it's possible the clown's name was Jimmy Briscoe. Does anyone else remember this hilarious gag? It made quite an impression!
