Hello everyone. This is a great group of photos. Thank you Mr. Piercy for sharing them with us.
J.G.....the name of the 1949 spec was "Birthdays" and was designed by Miles White.
This float was the "Stratoliner" (pay - off float). The right side (the one that faced the audience)had a scroll at the front of the rocket ship that said "New Year". Baby New Year is sitting on the front of the rocket.
I guess it was meant to symbolize rocketing into the new year and another birthday.
The float (simple by Miles White standards) was quite nice. The body was sky blue with white clouds and silver stars. The rocket was silver. The girls headress had yellow feathers. Her cape ombred from yellow to pink to red. It added a punch to the otherwise simple float.

I agree with Dom Yodice. This is a great set of pictures. I only wish there were more from this era.---ToddP
