banana derby (From Bill Strong)

banana derby, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

I always seem to be a day late, this was in a stack of photos, no idea when, or where. I do know it's a print, not a photo, and I don't believe I would want to give any of these jockeys a leg up.

Lee, perhaps you attended this: the Christmas Circus at the New York Coliseum in the 60's...there was a pre-show area with carnival type attractions including monkeys with some sort of race...I was just a kid and the details are fuzzy. Lee, since you are much older than I then maybe you remember the details. ;)

Does anyone have any information about Shorty Hinkle? Any circus stories would be appreciated.

In the early 60's the Beatty-Cole show was leaving the lot in Pa, and Shorty (with extended foot pedals) was driving with Pete the Porter riding shotgun when Shorty ran into a car that didn't know that the show trucks had the right of way (even if they didn't) and the whole show watched while
Shorty who didn't have his hearing-aid on and if you knew Pete, he was not to be understood (swish chesss) meant swiss cheese chatted with the local police. What a gas! This story was related to me by Bubba Voss. The outcome was they let the show go to the next town.

OK, Lee you are prettier but I still dashing, LOL.
Lee, I distinctly remember seeing you perform your Internationally Acclaimed Rola Bola when I was a very young child. I can still you highly decorated jumpsuit glowing in the gas lights that surrounded the ring.
This is so funny...regards to Judy...Once we unwind from the summer I'll call you on your hand-crank wall phone like they had on Petticoat Junction.
I know I'm going to pay the price when I see you in Gibtown next winter.
Kindest regards and don't forget to take your Metamucil.
