From Eric:
This should tell you to whom PETA and the other animal rights groups make their "presents" known.
Although the politics have been described correctly, for the future, let's not forget that we, the industry, served this up to her on a silver platter! 'nuf said.
This points out how out of touch with the American people the Democratic party is ! the first thing she had to say after being told she did not have support for her bill is that she would submit the bill again ! spending time and money NOT bein supported by the people but by wacko fringe groups. Democrats fathers of "Non binding legislation"
with all due respect, it's extremely unfair to label animal rights legislation with the Democrats. It's not part of the party platform and many democrats areembarassed by it. republicans have hurt the industry even more in many ways as well. and at the risk of making a very unpopular statement, the industry has not always helped. some of our best trainers have not always been presented in the best light in some of the videos used by activists. i will do everything i can to fight the animal rights people but i know from personal experience some of our best friends are infuential democrats.
I second Henry Edgar's caution to everyone about attaching any party affiliation to animal rights activists. Here in Maryland in 2001, the last time legislation was proposed banning elephants, it died in a House committee after testimony and lobbying thanks to the Democratic chair and vice-chair, my neighbor Delegate Anne Marie Doory and now ex-Delegate Ken Montague, the law partner of a former colleague of mine. While I cannot recall who introduced the 2001 Maryland bill or their party affiliation, if you automatically vote against the Democrats in Maryland at least, you would be voting against some of our supporters.
