Since I am not an expert on headpieces, does the CB emblem on these indicate Clyde Beatty or the Cole show? I also cannot identify any of the men around this herd.

If this is the whole herd (and you get the impression it is) this pic of seven elephants would have to be early 1950.

The Beatty herd started out at eight: the three former William P Hall elephants that Beatty got when he left the Cole show (Sidney, Anna May and Mary), and the five he got when he bought the Wallace show (Downie Babe and the four Coca-Cola elephants: Hattie, Cora, Inez and Marion).

Mary and Marion both died early 1950 so the herd was at seven for but a short time. As you might expect there has been some confusion about which of these died when but Don Carson's opinion is that Mary died at El Monte quarters and that Mary died during the Washington and Hill Street date.

I agree- that's Shipley at right.
