In its prime, the Royal was as good as it gets.l I was lucky to have friends on the show and thus mostly got to see whatever I wanted. Saw in first in the early fifties as it played Grande and Laclede in St louis where I was a student. Later often in Davenport on the Levee. Carried many remnants of circus. Monkey show was in Hagenbeck dog wagon. Flats all had history as did some coaches. Velare Sky Wheels in center of midway was the standard of its time. Girls shows, Harlem in Havanna or just later Harlem Review had one of the greatest bands in America. Miller Lido Show, Dick Best big side show, Motodome, Monkey raceway, walk thrus, Gavioli band organ in front, state of art for the time rides, super food joints and sizzlin concessions when lit up at night was one of the worlds great sights. Sedelmeyers, all three, mostly nice guys, congenial hosts. It was a terrific bit of show biz! Paul INgrassia
