This picture gives an idea of the Theater's grandeur.
I counted about 40 musicians with the percussionists on stage at right, reeds at left and the Mighty Wurlitzer would descend into the floor leaving only the windshield and organst's head in view. All the strings seated on the floor in front of the stage with the brass at the extreme right.
It was explained to the audience that a Silent Movie was anything but silent. We were encouraged to Hiss! the villian, Cheer! the hero and even applaud right along with the audience attending the Opera in the movie.
The music was wonderful and choreographed right along with the story line, Miss Vroman would sing an Aria matching the Prima Donna on the screen and the Orchestra really went to town playing for the chase scenes alternating with the Organ that actually shook the walls corresponding with the Phantom as he played in the caverns beneath the Paris Opera House.
Needless to say, after the "unmasking" there was scarcely a dry seat in the house.

Hiss? Boo? Stomp you feet? Cry at the end?
Exactly what happened to me at the Blue Show.
It is a beautiful theater. The ones in our city got torn down in the 60's in the name of "urban renewal". cc
DRY EYE Buckles!! Not WET SEAT. I did not wet my pants. Though at my age that could and has happened. lol I cry just listening to the music. My PGBV pet I named Andrew Loyde.
I for one would have loved it. It's been many years since I saw a Broadway production let alone a silent movie.
Bob
Carmen Hall and I got to see "Phantom" on Broadway while playing "The Garden" with the blue show.
