there are currently a ciouple of outfits that rent them with sleighs as "santa's reindeer"
I have also seen photos of them being used as beasts of burden by indigenous peoples
Wapiti or Elk
Large, deerlike, the males with large, usually six-pointed antlers that are shed annually; hair on neck long and shaggy; upperparts buffy fawn, the head, neck, legs and belly dull rusty brown to blackish; large rump patch creamy buff to whitish; metatarsal gland oval, about 75 mm long, the center white; tail a mere rudiment. Females are smaller and usually without antlers.
Larry, maybe you are talking about reindeer.
I think I need to refer to my animal encyclopedias
I was thinking Wapiti is a natve name for reindeer
Although I have been known to make a mistake, back to the books !

Wapiti are also called American elk. They are quite large, second in size among the world's deer. Only the moose is larger. The males can be quite savage, particulary during the rut.
I think the name "Wapiti" is Shoshone, one of the Native American tribes who live up around Yellowstone.
In Europe a moose is called an elk, in the US an elk can be called a wapiti. From the same people who brought you leopard and panther and many more.
It's amazing to see three adult male elk who get along with each other much less can be led. If they didn't have much testosterone they probably wouldn't have impressive antlers.
Hello in Germany gives it in each case in two Familiencircus a deer at the line, which then also in manege one demonstrates and over various higher obstacles jumps. Alfred Frank (in former times of the well-known Frankordi rider troop) shows a deer with the Circus Alberti, which other deer can one in the Circus Montana (Gerhard Frank) experience.
