From Buckles

This is the first pyramid of this type done in America. Someone showed Rex a picture in 1959, maybe the Krone picture above, and he had it in the show in a few days.
This card was put out by Howard Suesz in either 1960 or 61. Posted by Picasa

Who was Gina Williams?

Gina is the former Antonette Rizzey, well known to all of us as a great performer and presenter of animals over the years and circus owner. We know her as Mrs. Ray McMahan and especially as Netta. I am pleased to recognize her to all of you on the blog. No she was not Mrs. Williams. She was a young performer on the show that Rex could see could do the mounts and keep up with the fast paced routine. Rex was in between wives at the time and Netta carried on the elephant Empress tradition in its finest fashion. She was also very important working with Wally Naughtin in his first bear training endeavors. She is the sister of the famed Cucciola and came to our shores with Alberto Zoppe troupe. She trained and beautifully presented the Royal Palace Leopards and Proudly assisted her son Hadgie, known professionally as Sir Harry James.

Here I go again. Note all Rex elephants are trunked up as opposed to the other group. It is wonderful that we are able to see so many fabulous acts from across the water here on the blog. Boy they did some great stuff. As a long time animal person its mind boggling to me. WOW. and thats what makes this blog so wonderful. Keep them coming.

I was on the show during the time of this photo. To quote Mr.Gibbs, those elephants raised dust on asphalt.I gaurantee if Tarzan would have see Cuccillo's sister in this act he for sure would have dumped Jane.
I used to love to see Netta and the Cucch get into a fight. He could darn near whip her with Cinzana, their mother, holloring at them in Italian. She sure was a sweet lady. Also, if my memory serves me right, Netta married Harry in the closing town that season. My Father gave her away.

I now have a new word for those circus type marriages. "TWENEES" Been there done that. Loved ever minute of it. A very good thing for those of us between marriages.

Where'sssssssss Johnny Herriott ?
My credentials as an elephant man as I have mentioned in the past; I have graduated in the top of my class as a self proclaimed proffesional wanna be; AKA a goof who really likes elephants.
However, what a great education some of these photos have been to myself and I'm sure to many others. The photo of Freida Sembach-Krone's pyramid trick with trunks down; to somebody with my mentality is impressive. The text under this photo shown would lead one to believe it was done in europe prior to Mr Rex Williams. As the story goes, he too must have thought enough of it to duplicate the trick now with trunks up. I recall Bucky the Steele doing a corporation Christmas show one winter in Texas with the Hamid herd also doing the stand-up pyramid. (Joyce being the top mounter ). Freddy Logan brought the cat act from Hugo. I was there with my fuzzy critters, Robert Dale Kline and John Carroll.I recall they went to Freddy and kept asking him, " Did you see that pyramid trick that those elephants did ?" His reply was, " I sure have "they too acted impressed. Trunks were up. I'm sure it would be great for all if Buckles would post photos of the same trick he did in all three rings on the RBBB. I recall he used 5 of which 2 set up on the tubs. Also if he could post a photo of this pyramid that you also broke and performed, as I do enjoy conversing with someone of your caliber and knowledge Mr Herriott. I do hold a lot of respect for you whether I spell your last name correctly or not.I have now got to get back to driving.
