An exciting weekend coming up!

Had a terrific afternoon yesterday when Barbara, myself and Baby Kay had lunch with Paul Ingrassia and Fred Pfening. Interesting to hear their critique on recent events they had attended.
It appears that our Blog was mentioned on the front page of the Sarasota Harold-Tribune in an article regarding the recent "Circus Wars". The article NO MORE MR. NICE GUY was referred to but for some reason the statement "money grubbing bastards" was omitted.
The opinion during lunch was that in the article, the Ken & Nicole promoter babe, the Fairgrounds manager and Lee Stevens were the good guys while Circus Sarasota, Jenny Wallenda and I were the bad guys. My only disappointment was that the Blog Site address wasn't included.
Big weekend coming up, Ken & Nicole Hometown, Gibsonton Circus, St. Armands Ring of Fame and the Patriots-Colts football game on TV. Decisions! Decisions!

I still have my Patriots shirt from the last time. Actually never wore it. BUD are you sleeping later? I always look forward to your earlier comments when I log on. Hows the knee?

I agree that there were no orders from headquarters, I wish there had been, maybe a little better judgement might have been used.
It's general knowledge that the Hometown unit has been a losing proposition from the beginning, following in the footsteps of the last disaster and I'm sure the show is promoted aggressively, but after all they are the ones proclaiming a Triumphal Return Home to Sarasota.
Were you aware that when we emerged from the recent performance of the Showfolks Circus at Robarts, our posters had already been taken down and replaced by Hometown paper?
The body wasn't even cold yet.
Of course like you say, it doesn't hurt to have the Fairgrounds manager in your hip pocket.

If real circus people stay away from the show, where will their home crowd come from?

On that subject, I wonder how many people will go to that show thinking they will see Bello?
The recent TV broadsides from Tampa were shared by the Sarasota viewing audience.

Here is a question for all of you who have worked with elephants. The question is simple; the answer may not be. Please assume the question is being asked by a child.
The question is: What color is an elephant? Thank you for your help.

The Fairgrounds Manager came off as the heavy in the newspaper piece, and they as much as called him a liar when they couldn't find annoyed neighbors who disliked Circus Sarasota, as he had claimed. He also came off as vindictive and petty. I tend to agree that Feld Entertainment never intended to hurt either Showfolks, or Circus Sarasota, they simply never think about conflicting shows or common good when they promote a date. If anything it sounds like they think they compromised in aiding Sailors Circus and not exercising veto power over Showfolks Circus altogether. I'm inclined to cut them just a little bit of slack. They are what they are. The Grounds Manager however should be run out of town on a rail.

So how was the Gold Show? Have there been any reviews from the press or Showfolks?

To "What color is an Elephant?"

I am not an elephant trainer, but I have been painting miniature model elephants for years. I have found that "Earth colored Brown" seems to be the most accurate color. Also there is a pinkish or yellowish - flesh color that sometimes apears on the ears and facial areas of Asian elephants. In painting elephants, I always use flat colors, except for the eyes, which I paint with gloss.

Buckles, do you agree with this?

color of elephant:
Greys, browns, mixed with blue tones look acceptable in a painting. But hold it next to pachyderm skin and it's still not right. I understand there are some who believe after hours the preferred color is pink...

I've seen my share of pink pachyderms in my younger days. A couple of blue ones too!

Triumphal Return Home to Sarasota.....
Had to wait almost 30 years after ripping off the Ringling Museum and the people of Sarasota to show their face again.... Glad most of the fellows that saved all the wagons years ago didn't have to see this day.

I'm not from Sarasota and have no clue what really went on behind the scenes, but you can't tell me that the management of "The Circus Formerly Known as The Greatest Show On Earth", does not encourage an advertising campaign that attempts to convince the public that there is only one Circus, Ringling Bros. I think their behavior in the Sarasota in regards to Showfolks, & Circus Sarasota was petty!!!!
