Wouldn't the elephant crew have to hustle a bit now to get some elephants ready to pull up the quarter poles?

In rows 2, 3 & 4, it looks like a harness going from the bull around the punks.?? cc

They were all collared together, anchored to the big elephant that is being ridden.

I asked Smokey if he used elephants to put up the big top and he said very rarely. He said they had it figured out to where they weren't necessary.

I have heard that on some one day stands or long haul from the train or maybe short handed that thay would leave a number of punks back in the stock cars spread out and that when Smokey was gone this was a very frquent occurance.

I believe this was the case the following season 1956, the year the show folded.
