I had the pleasure of getting my first real job working for Ross when I was 17. Over the next few years he always found a way to find me time to work shows at Ocala, and later at St Augustine, and the place he was working on when he passed away at Lake City.

Thanks, Buckles. We first caught Ross Allens's movie shorts circa 1950. It was amazing to kids our age to see him handle the most poisonous snakes and dive in to wrestle alligators. Today's kids see a feature and are shown the door. They can't relate to one-reel "short subjects" on movie house bills. Allen was the real deal. We had seen Johnny Weissmuller's action scenes, too, and didn't care if his Hollywood reptiles were studio rubber.
