From Dave Price

The story goes like this and was known to all old billposters.
The John Robinson Circus was a great favorite in the old south. It even played down south during the War between the States and everyone really looked forward to it each year.
Supposedly one year the Barnum & Bailey Show decided to play right in the heart of Dixie and booked Mobile for the first of September.
The posters read "Greatest Show on Earth- Sept. 1" When a little child asked his mother what that meant she replied "It means that Barnum and Bailey is the greatest show on earth 'cept one- and that's John Robinson's."

(Laughing...) Absolutely the most politically correct version of the story I've ever heard.

Buckles, I came across this Feature article about your Father, while searching for other show material on the Circus Historical Society's website. Is there any way this article could be posted to your Blog, to share with others who visit your Blog, I'm sure they would be very interested to read it as well?
Sincerely, John Darragh

This would be the article done in BANDWAGON following his death the previous December.
It even has his picture on the front cover. I have a vast collection of that fine periodical but was dumbfounded recently when I discovered that my copy of that particular issue is missing.

Dave, thanks for the story. That was a gem. Thanks to anonymous too, I can only imagine the standard version.
