Please take note of that very evil ankus! This is a tool of mass distruction? It would not cut warm butter!

I have to tell you, I watched the steer judging at a local county fair yesterday and they used a unit the size of a golf club with a ankus point and hook on the bottom. I never heard one complaint. Standard practice. Go Figure!

The money for scholarships over the years has made the livestock industry more respectable in the public eyes. If the shows could use that "spin" more often with their sponsors' fund raising, maybe it would have taken some of the heat off them. As to the shows who don't use sponsors, maybe a couple of vet sholarships each year would help. Use it in their local advertising, and program stories. I think you can still take it off your tax bill.
Just think if this industry had put 4 or 5 kids thur school each of the last 25 or 30 years. Been a few more folks on our side.
I know it works with the Houston Livestock Show as you don't see PETA anywhere.

PJ, I'm not sure the cheeseburger consumers of Texas need much persuading, and ten thousand scholarships wouldn't stop Peta from slandering respectable owners and trainers (or hijacking some of the scholarships for extremist followers)-- but I only signed on with a suggestion to echo --

So, Changing the Subject:

International Zoo Yearbook, Vol. 40, July 2006, has an excellent article, "Concepts in the care and welfare of captive elephants," by J. Veasey. From the IZY web pages you can find links if you want to purchase access to the longer article ($39 USD).

Now I have to go see if the jeweler sells cute little ankus points for Rebecca's charm bracelet. Lotliza

Lotliza, How did you find out about my INFAMOUS charm bracelet? I guess you know its gold. I have had it for over 40 years. The charms stoped coming 10 years ago.

We would like to hear more about this Infamous gold charm bracelet Rebecca. Wow! What all charms do you have on it, besides elephants of course? Should be worth a ton of money by now also. But, certainly not something you would ever sell of course

Actually there is only one elephant standing on a tub on THE bracelet. Mostly it has charms with dates and silly words like LOVE and initials. Its of no value unless you melt it down. It means the world to me especially because of the person who gave it to me. Don't ask as I would have to kill you. It is almost too heavy to wear. I don't think the person who gave it to me remembers me any more. The charms stopped coming about 10 years ago. I should wear it to the CFA next week and see if it jogs the memory. Now that would be a REAL HOOT.
