CNE 1971

Jimmy Cole sent this picture of Hubert Castle's production at the Canadian National Exposition in 1971. It looks awesome until you stop to realize that the Ringling Show throughout the 1920's and most of the 30's had a format of three rings and four stages. The majority of the program presented 7 act displays and always five herds of elephants. And moved every day.

The acts here are Eloise Berchtold, Johnny Cline, Walt King, Tony Diano and Bert Pettus (with the house act).
I might add that attendance didn't quite match Hagenbeck-Wallace at the Nebraska Fair in 1928.

I was with Morgan Berry and Eloise Berchtold in l971 when we played this date. They had to get the OK from Rudy Bros the show we were with in order to go. Every thing at he fair was big but the grandstsand croud. THe local papers were not to kind to the show. And our elephants ran on the second day. That made the news.

Buckles - This picture isn't detailed enough but I am assuming one of the bulls is "Queenie" as we sold her to Walt King, Jr. (of Richmond, MI) in 1967. He eventually sold her to Circus Gatti but I'm not sure just when. Is Walt King still alive? If so, does anyone know how to get in touch with him? I'd love to be able to talk with him so my "Memories of Queenie" can include more information about her life when with Walt.

Any information anyone can share would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
