Robbins Bros. Circus Program 1938 #2

Since the show was new, there probably were no pictures of it when the program went to press. With the exception of a portrait of Hoot Gibson, most were former Hagenbeck-Wallace pictures, Mr. Adkins had once been the manager of that show. This is an impressive photo.
As they used to say in those days "Hold onto your hats!" because everyone wore one.

This is a pretty good crowd for not having the banners raised all the way. I know first hand about wind and canvas. 4 days in a hospital after a blowdown was enough fun for me.

To quote the great W.C. Fields:
"In Sioux Falls the crowd was so big they couldn't applaud this way (horizonally) they had to applaud this way (vertically) and they couldn't laugh Ho! Ho! Ho! they had to laugh Hee! Hee! Hee!

I have always said that when humans stopped wearing hats the world went to pot. Sun must have cooked the brains. Never forget the first time I flew to Love Field and on to Hugo. I was still wearing a hat and gloves. This was the Summer time. Its also how I got the name The Dutchess. The hat was a beautiful picture hat. DR's mouth dropped when he saw me. JC had told him I was not a circus girl. I spent the next three years trying to prove him wrong. BOY I will write about anything to keep from painting six 12 foot 6 x 6 poles.

Peter, It has been several years since my hobby of riding on the trains. At that time I think it was $400 to the west coast from St Louis for the sleeper car. That did include three meals. a day. It took two days to get from here to there. A cheese and wine basket appeared every morning. The only difference in the first class and second class was the first class had a private rest room. But it did not work most of the time.
