Mabel Stark #2

This Al G. Barnes picture puzzled me for a while since the signature to my dad was made in 1948. I then remembered that this was the year he took Dolly Jacobs elephants to Hawaii for the E.K. Fernandez Circus and obviously had camped at the Compound before sailing.

Today's shows should be so lucky.

Style and Class. Some had it, some didn't. When you saw something this fabulous, chills just went up your spine. I take the hind leg walking tiger for example. Possibly some other trainers did this as well, but Josip Marcan and Wade Burck both trained tigers to sit on the opposite side of the arena from them, sit up, and then to stand up and walk to them, then to come down to a sit up position again right in front of them. As a tiger trainer myself, that was the epotime of Tiger training.
The only thing with more class that I can think of was Charley Baumann's three Mirror balls at the same time. It was a good trick not necessarily great but the music and the light show that went with it made it a fabulous display that will always be remembered.
I never have seen film of Mabel's wrestling tiger feature but that had to be something to see as well.

I heard that at the Evansville Shrine date last November, Wade Burck had a hind leg walking tiger vault over a number of reclining tigers.
I now hear the tiger does the trick with the reclining tigers standing upright.
