I think that it's interesting to note that even in these small pictures which have been blown up and distorted somewhat, these 40 to 50 year old pictures taken through smoke and across the arena, that Lou's makeup (and his facial expressions) still reads through loud and clear.

I don't think that you'd be able to say that about most contemporary clowns' makeups.
