You might ask, what historical significance does this picture bear?
Incredibly it is now 20 years old.
It's been a long time since I last saw Lee but at last Saturday's Showfolks Circus I was plesantly surprised when an attractive young lady introduced herself as Lee's daughter Tonya.

The Showfolks Circus is not so much a circus as it is a social event being held in an intimate venue where you not only know the performers but 90 per cent of the audience. It's always a good show.
Traditionally the next big occasion is the Ringling Dress Rehearsal held under the same circumstances at the Tampa Fairgrounds.
This year however to see the Ken & Nicole "Incredible Shrinking Show" you must drive to a huge building in down town Tampa and be used as a means to beef up the opening night audience.
Hospitality in the highest form.

I still laugh at what Buckles told Parley, Kim and I, when we visited him on UniverSoul. It went something like, "Kenny shows them all this glamorous wardrobe in the first half, and in the second half, takes it out and shows it to them again. I don't know why he need 52 cars to do that."

In the subject of life spinning rapidly out of control like those outdated cassette tapes on fast forward lunging for that abrupt stop, and also the surfacing of the Ken and Nicole show; I am reminded of the time when Irving, Kenny, and baby Nichole (I guess) came to CW. This was a time when Circus World was the pool of Clown College clowns who didn’t get contracts for Ringling. This army of clowns, hopeful that some First of May would break there leg, or go crying home to Mama and Papa, came with a warehouse full of big brightly painted props. Lucky for me I was able to absorb the talent of the last of the true Circus clowns so my props were things like carrots, popcorn, a chair, and the famous phone gag bicycle tube.
I was at the top of my game, Antonio and I brought the house down with the telephone gag, and I made the crowd roar with my chair. After the show, like always, I striped into my boxer shorts and striped “T” shirt to work out. Well, white face brown nose clown Wayne Sidley was all goo goo over Kenny’s kid, and Irving gave me this look like I should go back to the barn. But that’s OK I love the barn, I could head ride George after he tossed me, and I pulled Sammy out of Herc’s jaws, and I know when I've been put in my place by folks that ain't done squat.
Sorry for being so long winded, and I thank you for your attention.

Is that Roy Wells on the left in this picture?

Buckles said...

Yes it is. This would have been taken in Milwaukee just prior to the parade.Roy would have had the Hawthorne elephants and Lee the Diano herd.
