Early Cole Bros Circus #1

Could you imagine being a child in 1935, in the midst of the Great Depression and seeing this stand of paper?

Wouldn't you know my furnace went out last night. 13 degrees here. Waiting for the repair man. The blog keeps my heart warm until he shows up. Fingers are starting to freeze. Hello Florida

Actually it's pretty chilly here in Florida. This morning I had to sit in the car with the kids until the school bus came. Windy and rainy.

That stretch of litho is about as good as it was ever gonna get if you were a kid chasing sawdust. Magic, I imagine.

I take down circus arrows after a circus leaves the area and put them in my scrap book. Does this mean I have saw dust in my veins? I use pine tree sawdust in my kennel as it smells sweet and last long. Never thought it might have something to do with my obsession with the circus. Circus music makes me get goose bumps and the urge to travel. yup, magic and sawdust.

It was another billing stand, for Sun Bros., which transfixed a skinny, 9-year-old poor kid in 1912 Bainbridge, Ohio. He was entranced by the artwork of the lions and their trainer, and was introduced to his future. In 1921, he joined out on cages with Howes Great London, and entered on the payroll was the name Clyde Beatty.

My dad mentioned that for some reason people always thought he was much older than he was but dispite this he was younger than both Clyce Beatty and Arky Scott.
Roger seems to be up to speed on birth dates, he was born in 1904, does that agree with your info?

Wise men[and women] always seem older then they really are for some reason. My being a wise ass does not count. Buckles, our birthdates are in the same week in February.

Beatty's own hand claimed various dates of birth, usually fudging a little on the years. Why I'll never know. He always looked much younger than his age. I beleive the latest year he wrote down may have been 1907. His mother set things straight by declaring Clyde, the eldest of nine, was born June 10, 1903.
