Hamid in Wilkes-Barre #1

Hi Buckles, I see Dr Don Curtis has done another fine job of portraitures on the Jaffa Shrine (Hanneford)
stand in Altoona. Will try to send a few performance shots as am able.

Right here, right now, want to send you some photos from the Irem Shrine Circus (Hamid)
that was held earlier in the month in Wilkes-Barre. Heckuva weather spread, temps between
70 and 90 degrees. Altoona was alot cooler including some snow flakes and tiny hail.

The walk-thru marquee can be seen in the background
with the panels open and photos of the attractions on display.
Immediately behind the elephant is one of the concession
trailers that rode in the open area of the marquee trailer
when enroute.

The Sponsor would provide vehicles to tow the cages in
the parade and might even add something of their own
such as the local Beauty Queen or perhaps the East Cupcake
Junior High School Marching Band playing "On Wisconsin!"

Lecture-Colonial Williamsburg

Lecture-Colonial Williamsburg, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

Illustrated lecture this Friday, April 23, at Colonial Williamsburg

5:30 p.m. in the DeWitt Wallace Museum, Williamsburg, Virginia

For almost a century, ornately carved band chariots, tableau wagons, and allegorical floats announced the arrival of circus day in cities and towns throughout America.

Richard Flint, a past president of the Circus Historical Society and former staff member of the Smithsonian’s Division of Performing Arts, will highlight the evolution of the circus parade and the carvers, wagon shops, and musical instrument makers who created the telescoping tableaux and cacophonous calliopes featured in these imaginative marches that annually enlivened America’s downtowns.

Programs and exhibitions at the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation’s DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum are supported by the DeWitt Wallace Endowment Fund.
