When the attacks came on our TV news, I called my high-school friend, opera singer John Mack Ousley. He lived in NYC, in the upper West 60s, and had not yet become aware of what happened downtown. He was to meet friends for lunch at the Towers, and was anxious to call them. He learned they had not left home yet, and all were safe. Then the world watched as the horrors unfolded.

On the 11th of September in 2001
I was in Scheveningen Netherlands
working on the Disney Musical "Aida"
in the CircusTheater when I called
my associate in NY for a color code
He noticed the 1st plane wreck shown
on the TV news during our call
All worked stopped & everyone
went into the several offices
with large screen TVs to watch
the unfolding horrors of the day
Joop Van Den Enden the leading
European entertainment producer
& owner of theaters called from
his office in Amsterdam saying
he was on his way to speak with
the crew from the US & to tell
us the load in is shut down
He offered his assistance in
reaching out to our folks back
in the States
I've had the opportunity
to work on several of his
productions in Europe as
well as here in the USA
He is a prince of a fellow
& a pleasure to work for
We share a birthday & had
our same heart surgery in
August of 2006
The grand old lady on the left
regained her NY's tallest title
for the 12 years until the new
Freedom Tower was topped out
To me it seemed like it became
a new target as a challenge
