This photo has been captioned as Madame Ella Bradna, wife of 40-year Ringling Equestrian Director Fred Bradna. He was Fred Ferber, who was in Ella's dressing room, in London's Hippodrome, when Barnum & Bailey's manager, George A. Starr, signed her to a 1903 contract. Starr took Ferber for Ella's husband, and signed him on as Fred Bradna. His father had disowned him over Ella, so Fred legally acquired the name Bradna, and to America they came.
