In 1997, my mother and I toured the battlefield memorial at Vicksburg, Mississippi. They should all be visited and atudied, but just this one alone speaks to the scope of this war. The drive-through involves some 16 miles, and takes hours to stop at each place of battle and recognize the reality coming to your senses.
