Memorial Day is an American holiday

observed on the last Monday of May

honoring the men and women who died

while serving in the U.S. military

As always I sent off a note to the members of NMCB58 to thank them for their service. IT is important to remember the reason for the holiday.

AA's father David Waitz was

a SeaBee "CB" in the Navy

during WW 2 in the Pacific

AA (AAron) is an honorary

member of the younger CB

veterans organization that

paid tribute to those few

original veterans until

none were left to attend

During part of my active duty

in the Coast Guard back when

it was a division of the US

Treasury Department I was

stationed on a decommissioned

Navy PCE ( a little Destroyer)

that was a gift from the Navy

to the Coast Guard without any

future purpose intended but

it was a very uneventful time

for me to enjoy Baltimore

during the Viet Nam events
