He and Jeannette visited me on Castle, in Utica NY, in '72. It was an honor to meet them, and I realized what people meant when they said Mr. Rix was kind and generous with young trainers. I had been called in by Castle to salvage the remnants of his mixed act from Red Hartman. I did so, but what it was at the time was obviously wanting. Mr. Rix put his arm around me, and said, "Don't feel badly, young man. You'll make it better." His encouragement stayed with me, and during the next season I proved him right.
