The 60-year old grew up in a village called Barma in India's NorthEastern state of Assam which is home to 5,000 of India's more than 27,000 elephants He says he understands the "language" of elephants He says that "most of the elephants here recognise me" Dr Sarma was awarded Padma Shri one of India's highest civilian honours for his work with elephants According to his estimate he has treated more than 10,000 elephants this far in his career which isn't over yet
This big guy was 1 of India's oldest living elephants in his upper 80s I believe he died fairly recently
