To signal the beginning of the end, at one point, Sarasota County enforced an ordinance that big cat acts at the HOF had to load up and move out of the county at night. The acts were supposed to return each day for shows, then depart again each night. Like "Get out of Dodge by sundown."

In 1974, when Col. Naramore ran the thing, I donated the last buggy whip and leaf rake Mabel Stark used at Jungleland. I still have the contract the Colonel and I signed, stating if there was a change, I could retrieve the items. Guess what--they vanished when the HOF closed and was moved to Peru. There, Beatty's daughter, Joyce Lee Ferguson, told me the Sarasota stuff, in 1995, still sat rotting in a truck with no funds to sort it out for display. Losing my items was not Peru's fault, but so much for the contract with the Colonel.

Roger, There was a LOT of the Circus Hall of Fame collection that was inventoried before the Peru group purchased the collection from John Zweifel that never came to Peru.
