Can anyone tell me more about "Karen"? Was she imported or born in this country? How old would she have been when this picture was taken? The reason I"m curious is because my Dad, Bill Green, has always told me that "Queenie" was the youngest/smallest elephant ever to be imported and survive (at least prior to October, 1953). Queenie was 32" high and weighed 250 lbs. Little Karen looks to be about that size as well. Maybe the "P.T. Barnum" was coming out in my Dad when he used to make that claim. Thanks - Liz (Green) Dane

This "Karen" was born in Thailand
in 1969 & this photo was likely
to have been from early 70s in
the Venice Winter Quarters
She was on Ringling Blue through
2012 & then went to the Ringling
"Polk Pachy Park" until 2016
& then went to the San Diego Zoo
She remains there today at 50
Barbara has claimed that her "Stella"
was also a much too young import that
she bottle fed with her own concotion
for many months (check with her Liz)
I'll ask her when I see the family
in Ruskin after I get back from NY
I have many photos of Stella
I know it's hard to imagine
Liz that your dad wasn't
spouting gospel but recall
what business we are in
This is Hugo Schmitt with her
I believe that Karen also was from Trefflich's
after they moved to West Broadway from Fulton
