I believe this was built for Howes London Circus circa 1871. The gazebo looking piece to the back of the dragon(s) was added later. I used to think that maybe it was one of the Barnum and Bailey 7 fairytale floats but is not and of course pre-dates them by quite a few years.
This float was used by RBBB well into the 1930s. In the background we see a baggage wagon with the words "Combined C". That means the Gumpertz years (1933-37). He used the word "Circus" instead of "Shows" in the title.
