Mr. Beatty was my hero as a child and I followed his battle with cancer in the papers for weeks prior to his death. I was still a young teenager that summer, but I realized that something great had passed, and would never be seen again.
So happy that I got to see him perform several times, the memories live on.
I remember telling my father " He's killing them"! As he fired his pistol and managed those big cats. This was the wildest thing I had ever seen; and I loved every amazing minute of it!

Roger Smith sent this reminder of the
anniversary of Clyde Beatty's death
"Gone 54 years today, 10 years longer
than his 44 year career. He is interred
in Forest Lawn Cemetery Hollywood Hills"
Thanks Roger as he remains in my memory
as "The One and Only"
As a "First of May" in the
Spring of 61 as a spotlight
operator in Commack for the
early season opening of the
"Clyde Beatty Cole Bros Circus"
I was immediately in awe of
him & his incredible act
His music rings in my ears
That date changed & enhanced
my life & my dual career
