I've been corresponding for a few years with his grandson Paul, locked up for life in the Corcoran State Prison in California. Paul writes most often of show business, but has been in the pen since 1979.

We in California knew Corcoran to be a tough house. Charles Manson was there, as was, or is, Sirhan Sirhan.

This grave for Kelly is in Sedan, Kansas, his birthplace, where he is interred next to his sister. For a time, Sedan operated the Emmett Kelly Museum.

Their website says the Museum is still there, but qualifies the exhibits now as some being Kelly-related, with most of it housing the world's largest collection of commemorative Jim Beam bottles. As we celebrated at Texas Tech, "Jim Beam, the Father of Our Team!" The distillery did one of these with Kelly's image. Somehow, mine went dry and got lost.
